#179) BENNY AYALA
Benny Ayala was signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent from Puerto Rico on January 28, 1971. Benny made his major league debut on August 27, 1974, and became the first Mets player to hit a homerun in his first at-bat. Ayala appeared in 45 games between his two seasons in New York before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Doug Clarey on March 30, 1977.
Benny Ayala added his very distinctive signature to this card for my friend Sam at the B.A.T. Fundraising Dinner on January 27, 2009.

Whats's with the signature? Does it depict or say something?
ReplyDeleteTom, it says "Benny Ayala". He has told me that this is his "A" signature. If he is in a hurry then you just get the written name. Personally I love this version. Believe it or not when you look at different examples of this they are extremely consistent one to another.
